"(y/n)~!!" Groaning, you hurried down the red carpeted steps of your family's newest estate. "You look gorgeous, young mistress." one of the maids greeted you.
"Thank you, Ayumi." you murmured, hoping she heard. To be honest, you weren't happy with what your parents insisted you wore to the dinner party. It was a dark red dress, cinched and the waist, and down to your knees.
You struggled to run in your black flats, the heels of it clicking on the marble floor of the mansion. "Hurry up, (y/n)!" your older sister, Reika, hollered from the limo.
"I'm trying!" you shot back, your curled (h/c) hair fluttering behind you as you stepped into the limo. You sat in the back row with your two older sisters, Reika and Violet.
They glared at you through layers of make up. You simple smiled mockingly at them with your foundation-free face. "Please try to hurry it up next time, (y/n)." your father said monotonously from the front seat.
You slumped in your seat, knowing you didn't meet your father's expectations yet again. "Yes, sir." you said, glancing out the window and refusing to meet any of your relative's eyes.
Your father, Ronald James, was the head of the very wealthy James Shipping Company. His company dealt with shipping goods all over the world, by land, sea, or air.
Your family consisting of you, Reika, Ronald, and Violet had recently moved from Norway to here, in Japan. Your father was invited to a regal dinner for yet another business reason.
Once you reached the point of interest, you warily glanced out of the window to see a very large and modern home. You raised an eyebrow in impression. "Not bad," Reika complimented, getting out of the car.
"Where are we?" Violet asked your father, hooking arms with him. "We're in the home of one of our fellow business company. The Ootori family." You had heard that name before.
The Ootori company primarily dealt in the health business, their renowned hospitals the most recognized of the long chain of properties. You shut the limo door, and was excorted into the home by one of the Ootori's butlers.
"Ah! Ronald! So very good to see you here." What you assumed to be was Mr. Ootori shook hands with your father and flashed him a warm smile. "Yoshio Ootori. Long tome no see." your father chuckled.
Yoshio was flanked by two young men on his left, and one on his right that had gray glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. You saw Reika and Violet smile at the what you assumed were the older boys.
"I presume these beautiful girls are yours?" Yoshio says, gesturing to you and your sisters. "Ah, yes. My heir, Violet," your father said, clapping a hand on Violet's shoulder.
Violet flashed a charming smile and curtsied. "It is a pleasure to meet you, sir." she says. "My second in line, Reika," Reika bashfully stared down at her shoes, mumbling a hello.
"And my youngest, the third born, (y/n)." your father said. Yoshio grinned. "Violet and Reika seem very promising, Ronald-san." Your father nodded.
"Indeed. They will inherit the James Company and become head of the family. Spectacular futures." Despite their fawning over Violet and Reika, you still managed to look okay.
You learned in the next few minutes that Mr. Ootori and your father had similar children. You had your heir, your next in line, and the third born. The pitiful underdog.
Even though you were much smarter than both Violet and Reika, you would never get the chance. Because you were third born.
"So, Ronald-san, I know your eldest and middle child are to go to medical school. What plans have you for your third born?"
"She will be resume her position as a first year highschooler at Ouran Academy."
"Ah, yes! Ouran Academy! My third born goes there as well! Kyoya is in his second year."
Yoshio gestured to one of sons, the one with the gray glasses and dark eyes. "Your son is very intelligent. I remember earlier you had told me that he is the class representative, correct?"
"Correct." Yoshio said. Though he didn't seem too proud of it. You could understand Kyoya's situation. He had two older siblings who had already set the standard. Unless he gave nothing but his very best, he was just to ignored.
The next day, you were awoken by one of the maids. "Rise and shine, (y/n)! Aren't you excited to resume highschool at Ouran?" she said, way to upbeat and cheery for you at that time.
"No." you deadpanned. Reluctantly, you rose out of bed. "Your uniform is in your wardrobe and breakfast will be waiting for you downstairs." The maid left your room without another word.
You opened your wardrobe doors to see a yellow gown with a white collar. The gown was past your shins, and there were white long, folded cuffs on each long sleeve.
"You have got to be kidding." you groaned. Nevertheless, you slipped the uniform on, and tied the red bow on the collar.
As much as your sister's absolutely ignored you, they loved your hair for no known reason. "Sit down." Violet ordered, ready with a brush and a selection of hair accessories. Reika stood at her side, the sleeves of her nightgown pushed up to her elbows.
You sat down on the chair, eating your breakfast as your sister's mingled and played with your waist length (h/c) locks. By the time you finished breakfast, Reika and Violet managed to pin back some of sections of your hair with a red ribbon. Curls flowed down your back and you rose out of your chair.
"Thanks Reika, Violet." you said monotonously. "But you haven't even seen it in the mirror yet!" Reika protested.
You opened the grand french doors to the courtyard. "I'll check it out at school." you lied, shutting the door and fleeing to the awaiting limo before the interjected any further.
"Class, please welcome our newest student, (y/n) James." Oh no. You buried your face in your hands in embarrassment as all the eyes in Class 1-A were glued on you.
"She has come all the way from Norway. I expect you to be nothing but sweet to her, understood?" Little did you know, a certain pair of twins and a boy (secretly a girl)were already discussing about you.
"That's Ronald James' daughter," Kaoru whispered to Haruhi. "Who?" Kaoru and Hikaru rolled their eyes. "He's a really wealthy business man. Their family is filthy rich." Hikaru and Kauro said unison.
"She doesn't seem that bratty to be that rich." Haruhi said. "Our father wants us to make friends with her. It'll be good to our rep to be associated with a James." Hikaru said.
"Maybe she'll come by the Host Club!" whisper-shouted Kaoru excitedly. Haruhi scoffed. "You wish." But by the time class was over, the twin succeeded raiding your desk, taking one of your notebooks.
Upon realization that one of your notebooks had been taken, you also discovered a note inside your desk. 'If you want your little notebook back, visit us in Music Room #3 after class! -The Hitachiin Twins'
You snarled, clenching your fist around the note. You were in no mood to stay after class just to get back the notebook that was rightfully yours. You stomped over to the so called room, and angrily flung open the doors.
Once you opened the door, there was a group of boys lounging in the chairs. "Tama-chan, we have a guest!" a high pitch voice called. "But we're not even ready yet!"
A blond haired boy was met in view and he slyly smiled at you. "Why, hello, princess. Whatever brings you to the Host Club today?" he said, taking a hold of your hand and kissing it.
You swiped away your hand, and the entire room gasped. "Host Club? What is that? This is a Music Room!" you retorted. The blond smirked. "Ah, you must be that new James girl."
You rolled your eyes. James girl? Seriously? The blond did some dramatic movements, and proclaimed in an equally overdramatic voice, "Only those with excellent social standing and those from filthy rich families are lucky enough to spend their time here at the elite private school Ouran Academy. The Ouran host Club is where the school's handsomest boys with too much time on their hands entertain young ladies who also have way too much time on their hands. Just think of it as Ouran academy's elegant playground for the super rich and beautiful."
"Uh huh." you said, unconvinced. "Listen. Someone by the name of The Hitachiin Twins stole my notebook in class today and I'm not very happy about it." you snapped.
"That would be us!" two voices chirped in unison. Your head snapped to the direction of the voices. Two identical auburn haired twins from your class grinned at you. "Is this what you're looking for?" they asked, one holding up a (f/c) notebook.
"Give it back, guys. I can't believe you took the poor girl's book!" The boy you recognized as Haruhi snapped. "I know you." you told the twins. "You're Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin. Sons of a computer software designer. Your mother also runs her own line of fashion."
The Hitachiin twins stepped back a considerable distance. "Boss, she's scaring us.." Kaoru said. "Nonsense. She's the daughter of a very wealthy businessmen, and she's merely bulking up on her studies."
A familiar boy with dark hair and grey glasses stood up from a table behind the twins, adjusting his glasses. "It's a pleasure to meet you again, (y/n)." he said, holding a hand out for you to shake.
You were first scared. When did you meet this guy?! But you realized he was one of the Ootori boys. To be exact, the third born.
You shook his hand then glared at the twins. "I want my book back." you sharply said. The twins grinned. "If you'll play a game with us." You rolled your eyes. "Whatever."
The twins put on identical hats and said, "Which one is Hikaru?" You approached them, an eyebrow going up. "You're Hikaru," you said, pointing at the one on the left. "And that's Kaoru." you say, pointing to the twin on the right.
The twins' eyes widened. "How did you know?" Kaoru asked. You scoffed. "It's quite easy. Kaoru, you have a higher-pitched, raspier voice than your brother. Hikaru, your voice is lower. It's not that hard, even when you speak in unison."
You held out your hand to the twins. "Book. Now." The blond, who you now know is Tamaki, stepped in. "Not until you tell us a little about yourself!" he said, grabbing your wrist and sitting you down on the couch.
"Wait. Is that..." you said, pointing at a familiar small little boy. The boy caught sight of you and instantly brightened up. "(Y/N)-CHAN!" he screamed, flying into your arms.
"Haninozuka!" you cried out, ruffling his hair. "Hey, Mori-senpai!" you said, waving at the tall dark haired boy. He nodded at you. "Okay, first things first, how do you no Honey-senpai?" Tamaki asked.
"(y/n)-chan had karate lessons from my family when she lived in Japan a long time ago." Honey said, hugging you. "How do you know Mother?!" Tamaki shrieked.
You looked at him, puzzled. "Mother?" Haruhi shook his head. "He meant Kyoya-senpai." You nodded. "Kyoya's father is good friends with mine." you explained.
"What about you?" Tamaki said, pointing at you. "Me?" you asked. "Well, if you haven't heard, I'm (y/n) James. Daughter of Ronald James."
"Tell me about your family's company." Your fists clenched, but you remained cool. "It's wealthy and powerful." you said through gritted teeth. Tamaki sat down across from you and raised an eyebrow.
"No, I mean, aren't you going to grow up and-"
"I'm third born." you snapped angrily. Little did you know, Kyoya just stopped all of his typing and tuned into you. Angry tears streamed down your face.
"My sisters will be head of the family while I will grow up and end up working for them." you said, shooting daggers at Tamaki. The entire club was silent. Honey nuzzled his head on your shoulder.
"And you know what sucks? My father has already set the standards. Unless I give him my ultimate best, he will scold me for wasting his time." you retorted. Tamaki looked extremely shocked.
Kyoya shut his laptop screen and walked over to where the rest of the club was sitting on the couch. "I'm sorry.." Tamaki murmured. "I never knew it was like that."
"Well it is." you say, rising to get up. "Hey, (y/n). You remind me a lot of someone I know." Hikaru said. "Who?" Hikaru's eyes drifted towards Kyoya, who was watching you intently.
"Our very own third born." You turned to look at Kyoya. Kyoya smiled sadly at you. He walked over to you and wiped your tears off your face. "I know how it is, (y/n)." he whispered.
"But don't give up." Kyoya said, enveloping you in a hug. "I know I didn't." You experienced something that day. You experienced an almost telepathic link between you and Kyoya.
One only those special third borns share.
